“Dismayed” The North Canterbury district synod standing committee of the Methodist Church of New Zealand has passed a resolution viewing with dismay the proposals to relax the law concerning the provision of liquor in restaurants, including Sunday trading, and of liquor charters to sports clubs. The synod believes this liberalising trend is not in the best public interest and therefore is to be opposed. The provision in the Sale of Liquor Amendment Bill for extended - hours’ permits similarly caused concern in the -light of the three-to-one vote in favour of 6 p.m c'osing, said the resolution.
