New Awards To Beatles
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, July 14. Paul McCartney received five Ivor Novello awards presented to the Beatles for outstanding contributions to British popular music yesterday, and said “I hope nobody sends these back.” The Novello awards were made at the Savoy Hotel, London. A fellow Beatle, John Lennon, was to have been at the Savoy with Paul to receive their awards but he could not attend. “We had a bit of a night out last night,” said Paul. “You know how it is.” Lennon and McCartney won a statuette and a certificate of honour for the most performed works of the year.
