Rio To Race In September
fN.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE. The New Zealand champion galloper, Rio, now owned by an American syndicate, will make his Australian debut in a six furlong event at Melbourne on September 4. Rio. which has not started since finishing second in the Challenge Stakes at Trentham in March, arrived in Melbourne three months ago. The winner of 12 races in New Zealand. Rio has as his main target the £20.000 Caulfield Cup at the end of October, but will start in several other events in the spring carnival. His training will start in. the next few weeks.
