Tunneller Dies Of Injuries
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, July 15., A tunneller died in an aircraft on the way to Invercargill after being severely injured in the Manapouri power scheme tail-race tunnel at Deep Cove today. He was Michael John Treurn, aged 23, son of Mr and Mrs H. N. Treurn, of 16 Adderly terrace, Ravensbourne, Dunedin. He fell about 30 feet from the fan line jumbo in the tunnel and suffered head injuries. He was flown to Invercargill in Utah-Williamson-Bur-nett’s Grumman Mallard, but died in the aircraft.
The fan line jumbo is a tall stage on rails which is used to erect sections of a 3ft pipe used to take smoke, dust and fumes from the tunnel.
