V. CONG ATTACK

Pre-Dawn Move (N.Z P A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, July 15. Viet Cong guerrillas, in battalion strength, today attacked a Vietnamese Army unit 35 miles north of Saigon. The Army unit, with United States advisers, was engaged on road-clearing work when thev came under attack. The pre-dawn attack occurred near the deserted railway station at Bau Dang, 10 miles west of Phuoc Vinh where United States paratroopers last week prevented the Viet Cong from overrunning the town. The build-up of American troops in South Vietnam topped 70,000 yesterday when 3500 infantrymen were airlifted to the Bien Hoa airbase.
