AUSTRALIAN CAMPAIGN

Royal Duty Sailing (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. Royal Duty will form the spearhead of what is expected to be a large-scale invasion of Australia by New Zealand horses within the next few months. The brilliant Otaki-trained four-year-old will leave from Wellington for Sydney by ship tonight. He will open his spring campaign in Sydney, with the Melbourne carnival to follow.

Royal Duty went to Melbourne last spring as one of the strong fancies for the Caulfield Cup but his form fell away because of his tendency to get down on his heels on firm tracks.

He quickly struck form after his return to New Zealand and won the Awapuni Gold Cup and the Hawke’s Cup in successive starts before running two close seconds at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting.

Royal Duty’s Otaki trainer, S. McGreal, will fly to Sydney on Saturday.
