(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, July 14.
Eight New Zealand businessmen have agreed to join the New Zealand economic and good will mission which will visit Japan and Formosa in October, the Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) announced today.
Sir John Ormond, chairman of the Meat Board will lead the mission. Other members are: Mr J. Acland, chairman of the Wool Board, Sir Andrew Linton, chairman of the Dairy Board, Mr S. J. Paul, president of the Manufacturers’ Federation. Mr C. U. Plimmer, member
of the Trade Promotion Council and a company director, Mr J. C. Souness, chairman of the Bankers’ Association, Mr G. E. Stock, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, Mr J. Wattie, member of the Trade Promotion Council and company director. The mission, which will be away from New Zealand for about three weeks, will discuss trade and economic matters with ministers, senior government officials, commercial organisations and prominent businessmen. Its primary purpose will be to strengthen the close trading links between New Zealand and these countries, and to reciprocate visits of trade and economic delegations from Japan to New Zealand. “The Government is pleased it has been possible for so many prominent men to spare time to take part in the mission. Their stature and the wide range of business interests represented indicate the importance with which our trade with Japan and Formosa is regarded,” said Mr Marshall.
