CRONJE TO GO HOME
Replacement Sought
The South African Rugby Board will be asked to send a replacement for the wing, C. J. Cronje. who will return to South Africa as soon as flight bookings can be made for him. Cronje had been invited by the New Zealand Rugby Union to remain in New Zealand for the rest of the tour as its guest, but Cronje said that as he was unable to play again because of injury he preferred to return to South Africa.
It is not expected the South African tour committee will ask for another wing. The likely replacement will be a loose forward, since T. P. Bedford and D. J. Hopwood are both injured. The South African manager, Mr J. F. Louw, said yesterday he did not know which player would be asked for, or in what position.
The chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union coun cil, Mr T. C. Morrison, said no restriction would be placed on the position of the replacement. “That is for the South Africans to decide, not us,” he added.
