Unusual Cargo For Barbados

When the Shaw Savill and Albion cargo liner Amalric arrives at Lyttelton from Wellington on Friday, she will load, among other items, a special trial consignment of locally manufactured surface coating for Bridgetown, Barbados.

The consignment, 400 gallons of liquid stone paint with a plastic base and manufactured by Restar (5.1.) Ltd., is the first to be sent to the West Indies. It has 85 per cent of New Zealand raw material in it and has already been exported with considerable success to Mauritius and Tonga. According to the company manager, the word paint is a misnomer. The compound is really an actual stone facing which is highly resistant to tropical, coastal and abnormal atmospheric conditions and it also strengthens stone structures.
