TROTTING My Chief Going To Stud In N.S.W.

The stallion, My Chief, has been sold by Mr S. XV. Easton, of Oamaru, to Mr C. Dickson, of Red Shadow Stud, New South Wales. Along with several other New Zealand-bred pacers and trotters he will leave for Sydney about the end of the week.

My Chief, a son of Chief Abbedale, failed to be as successful at the stud in this country as seemed likely when his first crop raced. They included Sun Chief, one of the most brilliant juvenile pacers of his time. His wins included the New Zealand Golden Slipper Stakes, the Great Northern Derby Stakes and the Sydney Pacers’ Derby.

At four years Sun Chief finished second to False Step in the New Zealand Cup, and later he won the Dunedin Festival Cup.

My Chiefs other winners include Kingsdown Patch, Chief Hall, Faru, Batavia, Mighty Chief, Swan Bay, Sundowner and Chief’s Fancy. Sun Chief, too, is to go to Australia. He has been leased to the Melbourne trainer and studmaster, G. Gath, who was in New Zealand earlier in the year with the trotter, Corop McElwin. Sun Chief will leave for Melbourne towards the end of the month.

Filet Mignon, a five-year-old mare by U Scott from a champion mare in La Mignon, has been sold by Roydon Lodge Stud, Ltd., to Mr N. Groghan, of Sydney, who is building up a stud with many well-bred New Zealand mares. Filet Mignon was a winner at her first start for the season last September, but she failed to win again, although she was placed several times. Filet Mignon should have great value as a stud proposition, and it is unlikely she will do much racing in Australia.

Mountain Song has been sold by Messrs T. Davidson

and A. Dawson, of Invercargill, to Parramatta Livestock Agency, Ltd., Sydney. An aged gelding by Flying Song from Popotunoa, Mountain Song failed to win a race this season but at times he looked most unlucky. He was placed in six of his 19 starts, and could be a worth while winner in Australia.

The same agency has secured Rangipo, a six-year-old mare by Thunder On from Hinepo. Rangipo, too, failed to win a race this season, but she was placed in three of her 17 starts for her Kerrytown owner-trainer, C. A. C. Wilson. An unraced three-year-old filly by Morris Eden from Starmiss, a close relation to Young Charles, has been secured by Mr R. Pracey, of Sydney.

Rodon Lodge Stud, Ltd. is sending the stallion, Highland Air, to Mr N. R. Williams, who has a stud near Sydney.

Mr Williams had Highland Air for a time early in his stud career.

A rising two-year-old colt by Garrison Hanover from Rowan Star, which was passed in at 850 guineas at the yearling sales earlier in the year, has been secured by Miss E. J. Keir, of Melbourne.

The colt and the three-year-old trotter, Regardless, will leave Melbourne with Sun Chief later in the month. Regardless is to go to South Australia.
