PRISON FOR FRAUD
Man Posed As Clergyman (N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 13. An Australian who last month defrauded Lower Hutt shopkeepers while dressed as a clergyman was today sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment by Mr J. K. Patterson, S.M.
Lajos Villanyi, aged 37, a night-club manager, pleaded guilty to 26 charges of false nretences and four of theft. He also pleaded guilty to having unlawful possession of a firearm when arrested. Another Australian, Kenneth Robert Holloway, aged 38, a driver, was sent by the Magistrate to the Supreme Court for sentence.
The Magistrate declined to deal with Holloway because of his past history. Holloway admitted 17 charges of false pretences, lone of failing to return a I rental car and one of theft.
