Drivers’ Threat To Boycott Terminal
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND, July 13. Bus driver threaten to boycott the Britomart terminal at Auckland from July 29 if conditions there do not improve, an official of the Northern Drivers’ Union said today.
He said the decision was made by representatives of the private companies, Regional Authority and Railways Road Services’ drivers and the Federation of Labour at a meeting today. He considered the decision was in the interests of the public as much as the drivers’. •
The meeting demanded room for all buses using the terminal to manoeuvre safely without the need to reverse and it insisted on effective
enforcement of the regulations banning pedestrians from the terminal carriageways. The secretary of the union (Mr G. H. Andersen) said after the meeting that discussions would be held with transport authorities before the boycott date. But if the boycott was put into effect, the drivers would
fix their own terminals in the surrounding streets. There would be as little inconvenience to passengers as I possible.
