Non-Sag Pure Wool Knitwear

Pure wool has won another round against synthetics and blends with the introduction of a new knitting process which includes a “living stretch” thread in knitwear.

The new process gives an even, one-way stretch and recovery qualities which ensure that a garment keeps its shape.

Double-knit jersey made by this mechanical process will not seat or bag. The fabric moves with the wearer. After hours of sitting, bending the elbows or knees, it recovers its shape 98 per cent in one minute: 100 per cent in 15 minutes. It retains its qualities through constant dry cleaning. First Time Dresses, suits and tailored slacks were shown to retailers in Christchurch for the first time last evening bv the sole New Zealand manufacturer of the new process, Tekau Knitwear, Ltd.

This firm has acquired the manufacturing rights from an Australian company which has patented the fabric after many years of research in co-opera-tion with the Australian Wool Board. The stretch is knitted into the fabric without the aid of any synthetic stretch threads. The product remains pure wool.

For skirts and jackets the fabric is cut with the stretch running horizontally to move with the body. For slacks it is cut with a vertical stretch to eliminate “kneeing” and seating.

The new easy-action fabric was shown at the Russley Hotel last evening in a full range of dresses and slacks in fashion colours such as Roman pink, anthracite and beige checks, navy and white, black and white, vivid greens and blues. They will be in New Zealand stores by autumn next year. The parade was compered by Mrs Pamela Brasted, of Auckland.
