‘Obvious Need’ In Chch.
At present 12 churches and some 200 Samaritans were engaged in the work of the Good Samaritan Society, said Mr A. Watson in his reoort to a meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery yesterday. He described the society as a group of lay people from various churches working voluntarily for the needy and the aged. It was not necessary for members of the society to be church members, said Mr Watson.
During the last two months the society had attended 68 eases in the South Christchurch area. The work involved any small job within ‘he ability of the Samaritan such as gardening, child-care or chopoing wood. Mr Watson said that the movement had Droved a success in the South Christchurch area and the time had come to expand it.
