Dr. Erich Goldhagen, of Brandeis University, Massachusetts, said that within 15 years “it will be difficult to find a Jew in the Soviet Union capable of conducting a religious ceremony.” In an analysis to a World Jewish Congress executive meeting at Strasbourg yesterday, Dr. Goldhagen said the Jews of the world must conduct “a real race against time” if the Soviet suppression were to be stopped. Dr. Goldhagen said Russian Jews were permitted to enter any profession or any university. However, he charged: “The Jewish spirit is more severely enchained than the Jewish body." He said the Jews could rot find self-expression in the Soviet Union.
