£12,000 GOLF CIRCUIT
Six of the seven tournaments ip this year’s £12.000 golf circuit will be played on North Island courses— Mlddlemore and Titirangi. in Auckland; and one each at Hamilton. Paraparaumu, Hastings, Tokoroa. The seventh will be played at the Russley Golf Club. The first of the series, the Open Championship of New Zealand, at Middlemore, with £l3OO prize money, will start on November 18. Then comes the Metalcraft Industries £lOOO at Hamilton on November 22: Caltex £2OOO at Paraparaumu on November 25; Wattle’s £l5OO at Hastings on November 29; Tokoroa £2OOO at Tokoroa on December 2; BP £2OOO at Titirangi on December 9: and the Wills Masters £2OOO at Russley on December 16. Sponsorship of professional golf in New Zealand was initiated by Caltex 11 years ago, and breakdown in prize money provided by this firm is typical of all sponsored tournaments carrying a prize list of £2OOO. This shows a first prize of £4OO, a second of £3OO, a third of £2OO and 15 other prizes ranging from £l5O to £3O.
