BRAWL IN SAIGON
Trade Unions Clash
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON. July 4. Rival trade unionists staged a brick-throwing, club-swing-ing brawl in front of Saigon's main union headquarters yesterday. Authorities were apparently expecting the clash, and a squad of soldiers carrying rifles and fixed bayonets quickly charged in to break it up. At least 15 of the demonstrators were rounded up and hauled away in a police truck. The fighting had swirled into the street in front of the United States Aid Mission, blocking traffic briefly. A police inspector fired several shots into the air to warn the battling crowd. The quarrel, apparently involved railway workers, taxi drivers and truck transport unionists locked in a struggle for power within the union.
