He overcame interference at two crucial stages in the race to win in a photo-finish. Winfreux won by a short neck from Arcadus and Todwana. which dead-heated for second, winfreux won his first race at a country meeting four months ago and was brought to Queensland to try to win a minor race to pay the expenses of his bet-ter-performed stablemate Captain Blue.

He is the first runner ever to win the Stradbroke-Ten Thousand double and next Saturday will attempt the treble by adding the Doomben Cup. After the race his’ rider, the jockey, W. A. Smith, said the run had been a terrific trial for the cup. Winfreux has been given 8-2 for the cup, the same weight as he carried yesterday, but he can be rehandicapped 101 b for his win.
