Photo-Finish To Doomhen (N Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) , BRISBANE. Winfreux, » three-year-old pelding, a maiden performer three months ago, made racing history when he got up to win the rich Doomben Ten Thousand at Doomben on Saturday. He overcame interference at two crucial stages in the race to win in a photo-finish. Winfreux won by a short neck from Arcadus and Todwana. which dead-heated for second, winfreux won his first race at a country meeting four months ago and was brought to Queensland to try to win a minor race to pay the expenses of his bet-ter-performed stablemate Captain Blue.
He is the first runner ever to win the Stradbroke-Ten Thousand double and next Saturday will attempt the treble by adding the Doomben Cup. After the race his’ rider, the jockey, W. A. Smith, said the run had been a terrific trial for the cup. Winfreux has been given 8-2 for the cup, the same weight as he carried yesterday, but he can be rehandicapped 101 b for his win.
