Junior All Blacks Selected

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, July 4.

The New Zealand junior Rugby team to play the Springboks at Christchurch on July 14, announced today by the selectors (Messrs N. J. McPhail, L. V. George and F. R. Allen), is much as was expected.

However, the choice of H. J. Maniapoto (Bay of Plenty) as a lock in place of A. E. Smith (Taranaki) and the omission of the Waikato No. 8, I. K. Begbie, are two minor surprises. Two players from Canterbury, the half-back, L. J. Davis, and the first fiveeighths T. L. Mehrtens, have been included in the team. A third Canterbury player, A. J. Wyllie, has been included in the forward reserves. He has been one of the outstanding loose forwards in the province this season and although only 19 could be considered unlucky to miss out.

The team is:— Full-back: D. Flavell (Waikato). Wings: A. J. Osborne (Wellington), R. J. Patterson (Auckland).

Centre: H. P. Milner (East Coast).

Second five-eighths: T. W. Tataurangl (Auckland).

First five-eighths: T. L. Mehrtons (Canterbury). Half-back: L. J. Davis (Canterbury).

Number eight: K. McMillan (Counties).

Flankers: G. C. WiMiama (Wellington), T. N. Lister (Wellington).

Locks: H. J. Maniapoto (Bay of Plenty), K. Crawford (Hawke's Bay). Props: M. Jones (Auckland), J. M. Finn (Wellington). Hooker: K. N. Grant (Wellington).

Reserves: Backs, D. R. Panther (North Auckland), B. J. Molloy (Mid-Canterbury). Forwards, T. Eliason (Taranaki), A. J. Wyllie (Canterbury). Captain's First Came The Springbok captain, D. J. de Villiers, will play his first game in New Zealand when the South Africans meet ManawatuHorowhenua at Palmerston North on Wednesday. He was injured in the match with New South Wales.

Besides de Villiers, five other Springboks will be having their first match in this country—L. G. Wilson, W. H. Parker, J. F. Marais, J. Naude and A. Janson. The team is:—Full-back, L. G. Wilson: three-quarters, G. Brynard, J. L. Gainsford, S. H. Nomis, J. P. Engelbrecht; flyhalf, K. Oxlee: half-back, D. J. de Villiers (captain); back row, J. H. Ellis: middle row, A. Janson, J. Naude, C. P. Goosen, J. Schoeman; front row, W. H. Parker, D. C. Walton, J. F. Marais.
