LOCAL BODY ACTS
Consolidation Proposed (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 2. A full revision of local bodylegislation aimed at consolidation and simplification is being carried out by the Internal Affairs Department. The department is examining more than 60 general acts affecting local government which it hopes can be consolidated into two measures only. Among these acts is legislation governing land subdivision, which, the department says, is extremely complex and technical. The first consolidation measure eould involve combining the Counties Act, 1956, the Municipal Corporations Act, 1954, and miscellaneous provisions in other acts affecting territorial local authorities only. “The second is a bill containing as many provisions as possible from the general acts affecting all local authorities.”
