Earning Rate Of U.E.B. 11.6%
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 2. United Empire Box Company, the Auckland packaging and plastics group, earned at the rate of 11.6 per cent on average ordinary shareholders’ funds in the year to March 3 a year of consolidation and no substantial change in the company’s structure.
The trading result gives a true reflection of the advantages of rationalisation and integration in earlier years, directors say. As vertical integration In the industry is not feasible under present circumstances, it is essential that the company diversify its interests, the managing director (Mr J. N. C. Doig) says. Several projects are being studied, some in partnership
with other companies, so the company will continue to expand on sound and profitable lines. As reported, consolidated net profit increased 18.5 per cent to £450,231, after an increase in sales by £861,202 to £11,006,769. AU major relocation of plants in New Zealand has been completed, and the programme of rationalisation has borne fruit, Mr Doig says.
