Guides On Tour

Three South Island girl guides are on their way to Idaho, to represent the New Zealand Girl Guides Association at the 1965 senior girls scouts’ round-up at Lake Pend Oreille from July 15 to 28. They are Miss Margaret Wood (Christchurch), Miss Pamela Martin (Ashburton) and Miss Karen Brown (Dunedin) and are at present the guests of the Girl Scouts of California.

Reporting to New Zealand headquarters, the three guides have written enthusiastically of the warm welcomes they received in Honolulu and Los Angeles. Two North Island guides will attend the Juliette Low gathering in Switzerland this lontl They are Miss Christine Scholium, a training college student of Gisborne, and Miss Marion Bail, a high school pupil of Maungaturoto, North Auckland. They have received Juliette Low scholarships awarded by the Girl

Scouts of the United States to attend a gathering at “Our Chalet,” Adelboden, the international training house for the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. Girls from Germany, Haiti, Madagascar, Norway, Switzerland and the United States will take part in the meeting. The programme includes the sharing of cultures of the delegates’ own countries, such as dances, songs, crafts and cooking, and an exchange of ideas on guiding in their homelands.
