CONCERT AT OTAKI
Inia Te Wiata Entertains
(N.Z. Press Association) OTAKI, June 21. Inia te Wiata “came home” to his Otaki kinsfolk yesterday, and sang again last night in the local theatre, from where he had been farewelled 18 years earlier before going overseas.
Earlier in the day the overseas-born infant daughter of Mr and Mrs te Wiata was baptised Heather Rima at the morning service in her father’s church.
The proceeds from last night’s variety concert, at which Mr te Wiata appeared as guest artist, were for the church.
At the end of his performance, Mr te Wiata addressed the audience in both Maori and English. He told the audience of several young Maori vocalists who were preparing to travel overseas to further their studies.
