Selected by Messrs 1. D. Armstrong (convener), R, H. Mackinlay and B. A. Turner, and announced by the New Zealand Hockey Association’s management committee last evening, the team is:— Goal-keeper: R. McPherson (Whangarei). Backs: R. Capey (Whangarei). A. Paterson, B. Turner (both Canterbury). Halves: J. Anslow, J. Palmer fboth Auckland). S. Maister. K Thomson (both Canterbury). Forwards: A. Corbett (Taranaki). J. Hicks (Whangarei). B. Judge, K. Kiernan (both Canterbury). A. Mclntyre, K. Rigby (both Wanganui), D. Paget (Wellington), and G. Smith (Horowhenua). The captain is Paterson and the vice-captain Thomson.

The coach is Mr Mackinley (Otago), a new member of the selection panel this season. The manager is Mr M. R Good, secretary-treasurer of the New Zealand association, treasurer for many years. A feature of the selections are:—

The return to the international scene of Thomson, after four years in the wilderness since playing in one test against the 1961 Indians. The choice of only four players who have pre-

viously represented New Zealand.

Two teen-agers, the 15-year-old Mclntyre and Maister (19); and. in all, five players not yet 21.

The management committee also announced that it had received fresh proposals from the Australian association for travelling arrangements which would add considerably to the costs of the tour.

The management committee had urgently communicated with Australia and was anxiously awaiting a reply.

The committee also expressed its pleasure at the imaginative approach, of the selectors and commented how pleasing it was to see the number of products of colts tournaments.

New Zealand Garden. Christchurch, Hampshire, is to have a New Zealand garden near the centre of the town containing trees and flowering shrubs sent from the Botanic Gardens.
