CITY TAXI SERVICE
The City Council’s views on the taxi service in Christchurch will be put by the traffic superintendent (Mr J. F. Thomas) when the No. 9 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. S. Haywood) holds a public inquiry next month. The inquiry will be to ascertain whether the present services are adequate to meet reasonable public demand and their efficiency. The council agreed last evening that Mr Thomas should submit: (1) Taxis should make better efforts to arrive on time when pre-ordered. (2) Drivers should assist women passengers with luggage, especially if they were unaccompanied. (3) That the requirement that a driver should first obtain the consent of the first hirer of his cab before seeking further passengers be rigidly enforced. (4) The council’s previ-ously-expressed views on the dress of drivers.
