GIVEN TO SCOUTS
Kwai Bridge Replica Twenty-five Venturer scouts and scouters dismantled the Kwai bridge over the Avon and packed the timber on to a truck in three hours on Sunday. The bridge, which was erected by the New Zealand Ex-Prisoners’ of War Association for its conference and reunion, has been given to the Canterbury Boy Scouts Association. The timber was taken to the “Blue Skies” camp-site at Kaiapoi, where it will be stored for future use. The area publicity officer for the Boy Scouts Association (Mr H. G. Killengray) said he was most grateful fwor the gift. He said the material would be used for bridge-building and other pioneer training at the camp. It would be put to good use next week-end, when a scoutmasters’ training course would be held on the site, said Mr Killengray.
