Timaru Branch Revived The Timaru branch of the General Labourers’ Union met this week for the first time in eight years, the secretary of the Canterbury-Otago General Labourers' Union (Mr L. B. Swan) said yesterday. Mr T. Harper was elected branch president, and Mr G. Gavegan secretary. Mr Swan said that the Timaru meeting was attended by representatives from brickworks, wool and hide stores and the City Council. Further meetings of the revived branch would be attended by representatives of builders’ labourers and concrete workers. The meeting was attended by Mr Swan and the union's southern organiser (Mr A. MacDonald). A strong local committee had been formed at Temuka to look after the pottery section, said Mr Swan. Fifty persons, representing every section of the pottery industry, attended a recent meeting. Officials elected were: chairman, Mr D. McLennan: deputy-chairman, Mr T. Johns: secretary, Mr I. Cross: assistant secretary, Mrs M. Crowe.
Anniversary.— The Italian Republic marked its nineteenth anniversary with a military parade near the Colosseum on Wednesday.
