PAY RISES GRANTED
Engine Drivers’ Union Members of the Engine Drivers’ Union have bad pay ! rises of up to Us 81d a week and several fringe benefit inj creases. ' The new pay rates, to be effective from the first day of ■ the pay week after June 25. were decided in conciliation The secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Engine iDrivers’ Union (Mr W. W. (Beaton) said the increases were:— General Section Award.— First grade: Ils 3}d a week. Second grade: 10s ljd. Third grade: 9s 3ld. Hospital Section Award.— First grade: Ils 3)d. Second (grade: Ils Bjd. Third grade: ,9s 3|d.
The main fringe benefit increases were a meal money (increase of 4d to 5s 7d and a ■ shift rate increase of 9d to ■ 5s 9d. Both of these increases include the 6 per cent general wage order increase of last ' year. Both awards have an unqualified preference clause.
