Harriers Out In Force
Christchurch harriers ! will be active this weekend, competing at Burwood. Cashmere and Ashley today and at Papatoetoe on Monday. The Anglican Club’s annual : senior men’s block relay at Burwood this afternoon has attracted 22 teams. Each of the five runners in a team will run one lap of 14.2 miles. Christchurch No. 1, comprising B. Dyer, M. Chandler, N. Fleming. C. Wallis and D. Puckett, will start from scratch, a minute behind
Olympic No. 1 and three minutes behind Marist No. 1. About 50 have entered in the colts’ race while a strong Nelson team will compete against seven Christchurch teams in the women’s relay. Christchurch will try to win j the Coronation Cup from Wellington and Auckland clubs ■when the Baptist cross-coun- ! try race is held at the Ashley course today. B. Turner, who gained fastest time last year. I. Sim and B. Buckley are the leading Christchurch competitors.
More than 120 will be racing, the colts around one of the 2i-mile. laps and juniors and seniors twice. R. Alien, a leading competitor in Canterbury races last year, leads a youthful Christchurch team to the Presbyterian harrier club’s championships at Papatoetoe. Last year Christchurch lost the St. Andrew’s trophy to a young but strong South Auckland team. Representatives from nine clubs, including Timaru and Dunedin, will be competing.
