the lines stop drivers from running with their wheels on the shoulder of the seal, breaking up the surface. This saves on road repair bills. Because drivers would tend to keep away from the shoulders and the shingle, fewer windscreens would likely to be broken by flying stones. Last but not least, many accidents might well be prevented. How much is it worth to save lives and prevent injury?
