TOWN HALL SITE

Proposal For Demolition “Provided satisfactory arrangements can be made with existing tenants, it is hoped that a recommendation for the early demolition of ’The Limes' Hospital building will be made to the next meeting of the Christchurch City Council,” said Cr. H. G. Hay after a meeting of the council’s town hall committee. Cr. Hay said that the committee of the council, with representatives of Waimairi. Riccarton, and Paparua. and Town Hall Promotion, considered the clearing of this site and its use as a car park as suggested at the annual meeting of the Town Hall Promotion the previous evening. “I am sure that a start in clearing the site of the town hall would be welcomed by the public, but obviously adequate consideration must be given first to the few remaining ‘Limes’ tenants.” Cr. Hay said. “It should be pointed out that there will still be other buildings remaining on the town hall site, as longer leases with tenants preclude any possibility of early demolition,” he said. Cr. Hay said it was not proposed to remove any trees from the site.
