MAIN POWER LINES
Underground Plan In U.K. (Special C.ripdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON. June 2. Plans to reduce the clutter of overhead power lines and transmission towers in the vicinity of Ipswich have been submitted by the Central Electricity Generating Board to the Minister of Power for approval. In the next three years, the board expects to spend much more money on underground cables than on overhead lines. During that period the board proposes to install 550 route miles of main power lines at a cost of £3l million, and 100 miles underground at £52 million. A total of 675 route miles of overhead extensions are also planned to cost £lB million, and 400 miles underground, £54.5 million.
