SUPPORT FOR U.N.
West German Pledge (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK, June 3. The West German Chancellor (Dr. Erhard) has pledged continuing West Germah support for the United Nations in a 45-minute discussion with the United Nations SecretaryGeneral (U Thant). West Germany is not a member of the United Nations, but contributes to technical assistance and other programmes. Dr. Erhard told a news conference that he and U Thant had particularly discussed economic development problems and West Germany’s contribution. He said there was a great need to find the right ways to use aid provided to developing countries. “We are very interested to see the United Nations work fruitfully and will continue to support it with ideas as well as materially and financially,” Dr. Erhard said. Dr. Erhard will meet President Johnson tomorrow.
