Regional Council Sought
Because there was a “missing link” between the Agricultural Development Council, which initiated policies for increasing production, and the farmer, who was expected to
achieve the increase, a suggestion was made at the North Canterbury Federated Farmers’ annual conference that a , regional agricultural development committee be formed. , Mr B. H. Palmer (Hawar- ’ den-Waikari), put forward a recommendation to the incoming provincial executive that ' it form a development coun- , cil at a regional level. His 1 recommendation was carried. ( He thought the formation of such a committee would be of great assistance in helping ' to increase production. ■Die purposes of the regional committee could include: the dissemination of information on the goals of the development council and of the incentives offered; to act in an advisory capacity to the provincial executive; to encourage the implementation , of the national conference’s ' advice and objectives, Mr Palmer said. i He thought Federated Farm- , ers should be fully behind 1 the aims and objects of the Agricultural Development Conference.
