Canterbury Wins, 13-9 A magnificent 60yard solo try by the scrum-half, R. S. K. Irvine. haW way through the second half helped the Confer bury Rugby League team to gain a narrow but deserved 13-9 victory over Waikato at Huntly today. Canterbury, down 5-7 at halftime, was trailing 7-9 when Irvine received the ball in a gap inside hl® own half. He accelerated into the clear beat, the full-back and just managed to outspring the last defender to score under the posts. Canterbury, which had defended desperately for moat of the match, then got on top. scored another try and kept Waikato out in the last few nunutes. Canterbury’s tries were scored by Irvine, J. L. White and R Nalsh. I. T. Drayton kicked two goals. W. Paki scored Waikato’s try and D. Parkinsen kicked three goals. The two teams played at • fast rate, the backs getting plenty of work. The Canterbury hooker. Noonan, did well in his debut to hold the highly rated Parkinson to 18 to 14 in the scrums. The Canterbury forwards played well but only in the first few minutes when white scored were they able to escape the defence.
