LETTER BOX
Merivale Rugby “As an old player and club member of the Merivale Rugby Club it is disappointing, to say the least, to see Merivale seniors struggling at the bottom of the competition. It is difficult to understand the reason: in the good old days the team was a force to be reckoned with. “I feel the fault lies simply in not playing as a team and perhaps the lack of a real leader. Merivale certainly has some good material. Two players in particular are outstanding: namely a lock. D. Wynne (big and
strong and an excellent lineout forward who only needs to learn the wrinkles to go far) and a full-back, T. Marshall. This young player is very promising and deserves a chance. Consistently sound in defence, he loses nothing in comparison with other full-backs. “Perhaps someone with knowledge will see these two lads and give them a chance. 1 feel teams in the bottom of any competition do not get looked at very much by many selectors. Naturally, anyone with ability misses out After all, where do our representative players come from, other than from promising footballers.” OLDTIMER.
