Hotel Trade To Lucerne
“I have never heard of a man giving up a good stand in the licensed trade to go growing lucerne on uninviting virgin country—that in itself speaks volumes tor lucerne,” commented Mr E. C. Topp, of Waipara, at the Lincoln College farmers’ conference last week, referring to the work that Mr L Waddell has done in introducing lucerne into tussock country near Pukaki. Until two years ago he was proprietor of the Pukaki Hotel. An indication of the robustness of the lucerne on this country was that as a result of two cuts off 200 acres 17,000 bales of hay were in the shed, said Mr Topp.
