TROTTING Chance For Hazard In Johnny Globe Stakes

Hazard will have his last chance of qualifying for the £BOO Queen’s Birthday Stakes at Ashburton on June 7 when he congests the Johnny Globe Stakes at Oamaru today. This race should be one of the highlights of the Kurow Trotting Club’s inaugural Totalisator meeting.

Hazard, a filly by Brahman from an Oaks winner in Petro Star, failed badly at Addington on February 13 at her lone start at a totalisator meeting. However, she showed her true ability when she won twice at the Spotswood non-totalisator meeting last month.

Hazard, a member of D. P. Grice’s Tinwald team, is one of the most promising young pacers in commission. If she races generously, she should be too speedy for most in this race.

Compromise and Humphrey, too. will be attempting to qualify for the Ashburton race, which is for winners. Compromise has been a most consistent place-getter in both classic and ordinary handicap events. She is due for a win and could be the one to profit most if Hazard makes a mistake.

Humphrey, a member of W. E. Lowe’s team, will be having his first race start. He shaped like an early improver with a bold showing at the Waimate trials earlier in the week. Flaming Glow, Ulight, Dryden Pal and Double Step are others to have shown ability and they appeal most of the others on the limit. Julie Hanover and Roydon Robin, both on 24 yards, will form a useful bracket for G. B Noble. Both have shown ability at times and they could add interest to the finish.

Sheridan and Fielder form a likely combination for the T.A.B. double, which will be run on the Kurow Cup and the Otematata Handicap.

There will be an on-course double run on the Oamaru Handicap and the Waitaki Handicap. Fair weather is forecast and
