LYNDHURST CLOSURE
‘Regrettable Loss’
“The Christchurch Parents’ Centre, whose object in part is helping parents towards an educated view of childbirth and family living, feels that maternity services offered in Christchurch will be the poorer as the result of Lyndhurst Hospital closing.” said the president (Mr D. G. Rogers) in a statement yesterday.
He said the main features of the hospital which made its closing so regettable were that it permitted fathers to be present during labour and delivery, and had rooming-in, personal choice of doctor, and very reasonable charges. “It appears that these important features will be available only in part at other maternity units, and the cottage hospital atmosphere so suitable to childbirth will be a loss to many prospective mothers,’" Mr Rogers said.
