Lancaster Park
Sir, —Seeing that Wellington and Invercargill Rugby sports have given up their grounds for the English soccer players now in New Zealand, I thought Christchurch sportsmen might have had the opportunity of seeing our visitors in action at Lancaster Park but apparently it is not to be. I may state that in 1908 Lancaster Park was to be sold for building sites and the commercial travellers raised the first lot of money to save the ground for all sports. I have played Rugby and am an old amateur runner; but I have seen professional cyclists and runners and professional cricketers play at the park.—Yours, etc.,
R. A. SINCLAIR. May 26, 1965.
