“Adopting” Teams
The Blackpool manager, Mr Ron Stuart, wants the crowd at English Park today for the professional clubs’ soccer match to “adopt” the teams, as the crowd did in Auckland, where the first match was played. At Carlaw Park, one half of the crowd supported Blackpool, and the other half Sheffield United. “It gave the match that little extra interest for everyone concerned,” he said. A Canterbury soccer official said yesterday it should be copied at English Park. He suggests that those on the grandstand side and behind the scoreboard goal cheer for Blackpool, and the rest for Sheffield.
