PORT HILLS RACE
Although entries for the Port Hills harrier relay today are not as numerous as last year, excellent competition is expected amongst the top four clubs, whose teams show a remarkable evenness of strength. Olympic has a remarkable record of four wins in five events and has two strong teams entered today. Clubs expected to challenge the Olympic superiority are Christchurch, Technical and St. Martins.
Handicapped in the first two events of the season by being without the brilliant J. Power, who was resting a knee injury, Christchurch will be at full strength. . The winner of the Univer-
sity club’s relay a few weeks, ago, Olympic A will be strengthened by the inclusion of J. D. Macdonald, who will be making his first appearance of the winter. Macdonald will be anchor man for his team and will have his eyes on the lap record held by his twin brother. J. K. Macdonald, at 27min 26sec for this section of 5.5 miles.
An intense contest is expected on the first lap climb from St. Peter’s School to the Sign of the Kiwi, several teams having powerful runners on this stage in an attempt to gain a vital break early.
At least four teams have Canterbury representatives as their first lap men.
