INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE

Presentation Of Diplomas

The whole country was so bountiful that possibilities were infiite, Mrs B. Matthews told the successful students when she presented diplomas from the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture at a priie-giving ceremony in the Horticultural Hall. Horticulture in New Zealand could be an exciting career or an interesting hobby. New Zealand was a pocket world as far as horticulture was concerned, she said.

“The keen amateur gardener joins specialist aoofeties and sets trends, so as professionals you should not underestimate him,” said Mrs Matthews.

The chairman of the Canterbury district council of the institute (Mr G. G. Henderson) said that although gardening might seem an ordinary sort of business the final diploma was presented after a six-year course, and even medicine could not boast of anything longer than that.

The following awards were made: Junior certificate, M. Thomas. D. Kenvig, J. Woodley; intermediate certificate. Miss M. Balloch; national certificate. G. Jones.
