Latin America Needs (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 27. Diplomatic posts may have to be established in Latin America, said the annual report to Parliament of the Department of External Affairs. “For the present, at least, when it has no diplomatic posts in Latin America and economic ties are not substantial, New Zealand is limited to a ‘spectator’ interest in Latin American affairs,” said the report. “However, New Zealand's dependence on the use of the Panama Canal, its common concern with certain Latin American countries in improved international controls of trade in primary commodities, the vast population growth expected in Latin America, and the fact that some Latin American countries have a Pacific seaboard, all suggest that, before long. New Zealand may have to examine closely the need for arrangements that will enable economic and political developments in the region to be followed more intensively.”
