TROOPS TO DOMINICA
De Gaulle Is Critical
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, May 27. President de Gaulle has made his strongest public criticism so far of United States action in sending troops to the Dominican Republic. He said foreign intervention could threaten world peace. Mr Alain Peyrefitte, the information Minister, read the statement before a news conference held after a Cabinet meeting. He declined to answer questions about the statement but the circumstances left no doubt among reporters present that it was a personal expression of President de Gaulle’s view.
In Washington, the Secretary of State (Mr Dean Rusk) has rebuked France for its criticisms.
The French Government should give more attention to the joint move of American countries, which were dealing with the problem as a group, he said.
The problem was not one on which the French Government carried a very active responsibility.
