Victory From Late Penalty
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, May 26.
A penalty goal just before the end gave Auckland a 124 victory against Counties in a representative Rugby match at Papakura today.
Auckland’s points came from a try and three penalty goals. Counties scored a dropped goal and two penalty goals.
The trend of the game was
soon set, for W. A. Davies missed a goal in the first minute and K. McMillan in the second. Counties surged back and in the seventh minute Worrall goaled from 33 yards.
Auckland soon drew level when a series of attacks forced a scrum near the goalmouth and D. M. Connor cleverly put M. Herewlni through to the line on the short side. 1 In the thirty-first minute,
Davies missed the line and Worrall dropped a magnificent goal from 50 yards. Davies replied immediately with a penalty goal, but just after half-time Counties led again when Worrall goaled from 35 yards. In the fifty-ninth minute Davies kicked a goal from 35 yards and just before the end succeeded from 38 yards after Herewlni had been latecharged when Auckland was on attack.
