PAKISTANI’S PRAISE
Facilities For Squash
New Zealand's squash rackets facilities have impressed Aftab Jawaid, the present world amateur champion, who arrived in Christchurch last evening. Jawaid, of Pakistan, who ts making a coaching tour of New Zealand, said facilities were up to the best overseas standards, in general, and in some respects were superior. “I have played against all the leading New Zealanders and think there are three main faults with their games," he said. "There is a lack of court craft, poor basic techniques, and their timing is poor."
In addition, he considered the players lacked sufficient hard match play to bring them to world standard.
Since he arrived in the country, three weeks ago, Jawaid has gone out of his way to meet New Zealanders.
He had only one complaint to make on his arrival in Christchurch—he was hungry. Unable to eat European food, he subsists on cups of tea while travelling. However, he carries a supply of "special’’ curry powder with him and is an expert cook.
Thia evening, Jawaid will play exhibition matches against C. R Waugh, the present New Zealand champion, and D. R. Preston, Canterbury’s top player.
