Reduction In Grants
Grants recommended in the provisional estimates were reduced from a total of £2908 15s to £2558 15s by the Waimairi County Council last night, when it adopted a report from its finance committee.
The council deleted a proposed grant of £5O to the Canterbury Children’s Theatre, cut from £250 to £lOO a giant to the Christchurch Civic Music Council for the overseas tour, cut from £lOO to £5O a grant to the Royal Australian College of Physicians, and cut a proposed grant of £250 for five years to the Y.M.C.A. to £152 2s, a total cut in the recommendations of £350.
Margins.—The Waimairi County Council, on the recommendation of its finance committee, decided last night to raise margins above award rates for tradesmen to allow payment of £2O a week to them, with £l9 6s 8d to certified mechanics and £l6 5s 2d to storemen.
