Supreme Court Amount Allowed As Set-Off Varied

Mr Justice Wilson in the Supreme Court yesterday allowed the appeal of Julian Kenneth Wooldridge, trading as Drainage-Concrete Contractors of Christchurch (Mr C. R. Harman) against a decision in the Magistrate’s Court on March 31. After the fourth and final Lower Court hearing of a dispute the Magistrate allowed Wooldridge the amount of £4OB 18s he had claimed as money owing for carrying out a sub-contract for A. Edmond and Son, Ltd., drainage contractors of Christchurch (Mr J. B. Williams). The Magistrate also allowed A. Edmond and Son, Ltd., a sum of £409 19s lOd as set-off for the rectification of defective work in the sub-contract. Edmond and Son, Ltd., had been the main contractor on a section of a sewerage scheme installed in the Free Block at Halswell, and Wooldridge had sub-contracted to Edmond and Son, Ltd., for the laying of laterals on the section of the scheme for which Edmond and Son were responsible.
