Ban On Imports Of British Cattle
(New Zealand Press Association)
HASTINGS, May 25.
Cattle imports from Britain may he prohibited this year because of an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Kent.
No statement of the position has yet been made by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Tai boys), but Mr S. E. Esam, secretary of the Aberdeen Angus 3reed Association, said today that some Hawke’s Bay licence-holders had told him they received telephone calls from the Department of Agriculture advising them of the cancellation of their import licences.
A year ago an embargo was
placed on all cattle entering New Zealand from Britain after some cattle bought by New Zealand breeders failed to pass veterinary tests.
